The Citylink Explorer Pass gives you flexible, unlimited travel across the Citylink network within your chosen validity period. While the pass allows you to board services without pre‑booking, making reservations in advance is strongly recommended, especially on busy or scenic routes.
1. Have your Explorer Pass ready
Before you start, make sure you have your Explorer Pass number available. Explorer Passes are digital and valid for one year from purchase, with your travel period starting when the pass is first used to board a coach or when you make your first reservation online.
2. Go to the Citylink booking page
Visit the Citylink booking site at: www.citylink.co.uk
From here, you’ll be able to search for journeys and apply your Explorer Pass.
3. Search for your journey
Select ‘Reserve Explorer Pass’ and enter your Pass number(s) then ‘Add Pass’
You can the search for:
- Your from and to locations
- Your travel date
When searching for your journey, choose single, then search for available services. If you plan on using a return journey, please book this separately as another single journey.
4. Select your coach service
You’ll see a list of available departures for your chosen route. Select the journey you’d like to reserve.
Although reservations aren’t always essential, booking ahead helps secure your seat, particularly during peak periods and on popular routes such as Fort William, Skye, Oban, and Inverness.
5. Add optional extras (if required)
During the reservation process, you can add extras such as:
- Seat reservations (available on selected routes at and additional fee applies)
- Additional luggage (additional fee applies)
- Bicycle space
Seat reservations, where available, are offered on a first‑come, first‑served basis and can only be added at the time of booking. Seat Reservations are for specific seats. If you don't select one, you're still guaranteed a seat on the selected coach from our general seating.
6. Receive your reservation confirmation
Once confirmed:
- Your reservation will appear in your online account (if logged in)
- You’ll receive email confirmation of your booked journey
- Simply show your Explorer Pass and reservation to be scanned when boarding the coach
Helpful tips
- Reservations are recommended but not mandatory on most services
- Once your Explorer Pass travel period has started, the dates can’t be changed, so please consider your bookings carefully
- If you prefer, reservations can also be made at Citylink ticket offices, subject to availability
- If you don’t hold a reservation, boarding is still possible if there is a space on the coach.
